Poliana Alves

Poliana Alves – mezzo-soprano – received her Master’s and Doctorate in Music Performance – Voice, from the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP). She studied voice with Profs. Edmar Ferretti and Adriana Giarola Kayama.

Ms. Alves has sung the roles of Suor Angelica and Zia Principessa from Puccini’s Suor Angelica; Santuzza in Mascagni’s Cavalleria rusticana in 2007 in Uberlândia, MG, and 2019 in Goiânia, GO in the opening of the Goiânia opera festival with the Goiás Youth Symphony, under the musical direction of Maestro Eliel Ferreira. She has also performed Purcell’s Dido and Eneas.

Ms. Alves was soloist of Bach’s Cantata 78 with the Federal University of Uberlândia’s (UFU) orchestra, conducted by Maestro Flávio Santos; Mozart’s Requiem with the UFU Choir, conducted by Edmar Ferretti and with the Goiânia Symphonic Orchestra and Choir under the direction of Maestro Ângelo Dias; Ricardo Tacuchian’s Cantata de Natal; Camargo Guarnieri’s Missa Diligite; José Maurício Nunes Garcia’s Tota pulchra es, Maria. She also sang the world premiere of Calimério Soares’ Trinidad lunar, as well as the Brazilian premiere of Antônio Celso Ribeiro’s The Bethsaida miracle. With the Unicamp Symphonic Orchestra Ms. Alves performed M. de Falla’s El amor Brujo (Simone Menezes, conductor) as well as Beethoven’s 9th Symphony and Berlioz’s Cléopâtre, both under the baton of Maestro Carlos Fiorini.

Ms. Alves was invited by the Udi Cello Ensemble to sing H. Villa-Lobos’ Bachianas Brasileiras No. 5. She also performed with this same ensemble under the direction of maestri Júlio Medaglia and Marcos Arakaki. She has also performed numerous recitals throughout Brazil.

In 2018 and 2021 Ms. Alves performed various recitals with Brazilian art songs in the Barcelona Festival of Song.

In 2019 Ms. Alves participated in the Cerrado Ensemble Project, singing Ravel’s Madécasses and Anne Boyd’s Cycle of Love, performing in Uberlândia and other neighboring cities.

In 2023 Ms. Alves joined the FIO ITALIA’s faculty, and sang the role of Nina in Pergolesi’s Lo Frate ‘Nnamorato, which was performed in the cities of Urbania and Jesi, Italy.

Ms. Alves’ research is focused on the performance practice of Brazilian art song, with special focus on repertoire in the Portuguese language from the XIX and beginning of the XX centuries.

Ms. Alves is a voice faculty member at the Institute of Arts of the Federal University of Uberlândia.
